Papal Trance

When Pope John Paul II continued to address the public despite his weakening condition, his devotion to his function made a lasting impression on believers and agnostics alike.

I was deeply intrigued by the sound of his voice, which managed to project willpower and tenace despite being physically weakened and torn.

Hence I undertook the project to create a piece of music using but a few words of his speech from the window of his room in the Gemelli hospital.

All sounds in "Papal Trance" are directly derived from these words. Unchanged, slowed down, raised or lowered, filtered or distorted they keep the intrinsic qualities of the original speech, yet make up a full sound palette.

A final comment: if you're offended by this for whatever reason, I can understand that, although it was not my intent to offend. I tend to think that John Paul II himself would find this creation amusing, but we'll never know, will we ?
